week ending 15/7/2007

If I could bring you top class fishing every week I would but impossible .This week has been a bit mediocre,I've been out every day but it hasn't been easy,Monday 9th bits and pieces but nothing great, angler Ted missed the best fish ,flapper on wire trace all day nothing ,removes the trace and gets snapped up by a tope but that's fishing .Tuesday Weather brilliant tried for a mixed bag for the Stansted party but few skate ,one bass, few dogs and few hounds.Best of the day was later for a few better hounds but we did have GOOD WEATHER !.

Wednesday individuals but lets feel sorry for the skipper ,Fishing was a bit slow for everyone but when I went to haul the anchor the hydraulic pipe burst on the winch .I got covered in oil and the anchor had to be lifted manually so we had to sit it out ,tagged a few hounds but no record breakers .moved To Barrow Head it was slow but everyone had mackerel and a few hounds although nothing outstanding.it finished the day.

Thursday good anglers tried the Maplin ,fresh s/west few fish on arrival but it soon dried up ,tried feathering the wrecks but I could see it wasn't going to happen ,water was too cloudy we had one keeper. moved east but it was a case of one fish here one fish there ,slow.

Friday Four keen newcomers originally for tope but that hasn't happened for a while so It was hounds again, they all experienced the hounds but again no great numbers but lost a couple of good fish.

Saturday bloody weather!!! While most cancelled we went again rough but easily do-able we sat on the Gunfleet hoping for bass but couple of small tope and a couple of skate. We moved off into the deeper water and managed a few more hounds up to 11lbs but although we caught it wasn't up to par.Only three anglers on board which meant less rods? so we might have managed a few more with eight.but all caught.

Sunday 7 anglers many novices and no South Westerly ,but this time North East 4/5 worse than the day before and weather wise most uncomfortable ,we struggled on the first mark, moved and again slow ,with conditions uncomfortable The anglers were ready to call it a day but I said try one more mark, tide was slack coming round to ebb ,big swell but worth a try.we moved to the mark and straight away lost two very good fish, but we did find a few more ,It wasn't great but managed close on 20 fish for the day.

Summary It has been a very hard week with the bad weather ,pressure changes and no settled patten the water has gone from clear to very coloured there is a hell of a lot of white bait mid water and a lot of the fish are feeding on these which makes your bait on the bottom insignificant and with the water being so coloured the birds arn't working and nor are the feathers.Hounds not so good as previous weeks but we've got till end of Aug/mid September so theres time. cheers dave weaving
